Knowing how to transfer NFTs between wallets is crucial whether you are an NFT collector, creator, or investor. Below are the steps you can follow to transfer NFTs, including to the MetaMask wallet.
The following steps are generally applicable to most wallets, including the top hardware wallets. However, there may be slight variations depending on the specific wallet you use. In this example, we will be using MetaMask and OpenSea to transfer our NFT to the recipient’s wallet address.
Access your Wallet and View your NFTs
If you are using MetaMask, simply open the app (mobile) or extension (desktop) and click the “Assets” tab to view your NFT collection. If you cannot find the NFT you want to transfer, you can visit Opensea to view your NFTs.
Choose the NFT to Transfer
Select the NFT you want to transfer, then find the “Send” button in your wallet. If you are using Opensea, look for the “Transfer” tab after selecting the NFT.
Enter the Recipient’s Public Wallet Address (or ENS)
When you click the send button, you will be asked to enter the recipient’s public wallet address or their Ethereum Name Service (ENS). A valid wallet address starts with “0x” followed by 40 characters/numbers, while an ENS is a readable name like “Alex.eth.”
Approve the Transaction
After verifying the recipient’s address is correct, you need to sign the transaction using your wallet to approve it. The cost of transferring an NFT can range from $0.50 to $20.00, depending on the gas fee you choose. It is recommended to choose either Average or Fast transaction speeds.
The transfer will not be completed immediately, and it may take several minutes, depending on the transaction speed you selected. Do not worry if you do not receive a completion notification right away.
Verify the Transfer
To confirm that the transfer is successful, you can use Etherscan, the Ethereum Blockchain Explorer. Check the Activity tab in your wallet to find the transaction you want to verify, and then select “View on Etherscan” to view the transaction details. If the status shows “Success,” it means the transaction has been successfully completed.
