Last Thursday, the AFAD reported that 6,479 foreign rescuers were dispatched to the earthquake zones. In fact, they stated on Wednesday that 66 countries had already sent their respective search and rescue teams. Furthermore, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu declared during a press conference on Thursday that 95 nations and 16 international organizations have offered assistance for Turkey in this challenging period; thus far, 56 countries have accepted these offers with 6,479 personnel currently working closely together within Turkish borders. Moreover, he added that more than 19 nations are expected to arrive within 24 hours!
Ukraine and Israel Sent Aid Teams
The Ukraine State Emergency Service announced that 87 search and rescue workers, doctors, firefighters, and trained dogs were sent to Turkey. Video footage captured the emergency personnel constructing tents for earthquake victims in Antakya. A humanitarian aid organization from Israel called “Olive Branches” also arrived in Turkey, offering support and relief efforts.
On behalf of the State of Israel, Eli Cohen’s voice carried a solemn tone when he conveyed his condolences to Turkey for suffering from the earthquake. To further express their support and empathy, the Israeli Embassy stated on Tuesday that 167 experts with search and rescue dogs, along with 16 tons of emergency supplies & technical equipment, were dispatched to offer help. The prompt response from Israel demonstrates unity in times of adversity. On the night of February 8, a horde of 230 life-saving specialists consisting of search and rescue professionals, medical doctors, nurses, and paramedics, as well as 15 Israeli military aircraft loaded with hundreds of tons of supplies, touched down in Turkey. Their sole mission is to set up an urgent first aid facility in the earthquake zone.
The Embassy Of Azerbaijan Announced That A Team Of 725 People Was Sent To Turkey
At the direction of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs dispatched an impressive 420-personnel rescue squad to Turkey on February 6th alongside essential equipment and search dogs to join in their efforts. Additionally, the Ministry has sent a 41-person team and a mobile field hospital stocked with medical materials and supplies. Through this collective effort, we can ensure that those affected will receive the necessary aid to recover as soon as possible.
The EU And UN Are Also Helping In Various Ways
The European Union, alongside Albania and Montenegro, mobilized an impressive number of medical teams across 20 countries to lend aid in Turkey; 1400 rescue personnel and 100 search dogs were deployed. In addition, a conference will be held in March to gather assistance from around the world for victims affected by earthquakes in both Turkey and Syria.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, declared that emergency medical teams had been deployed to deliver essential healthcare services for those affected by the seismic activity. Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that UN personnel are also present in the region. To aid people struggling with this dilemma, $25 million has been allocated from the UN’s Emergency Fund specifically for survivors in Turkey and Syria who were struck by earthquakes.
Aid Is Pouring In From Asia To Turkey
In response to the recent disaster in Turkey, China is contributing $5.9 million in emergency aid and has dispatched 82 search and rescue officers alongside four specially trained dogs to assist with relief efforts. Japan also sent 73 search and rescue workers, detectors, drills, portable generators, medical kits, and food for those affected by this tragedy. Meanwhile, India’s army has begun its mission of providing care through a field hospital located in the Iskenderun district of Hatay, complete with an x-ray laboratory and a pharmacy warehouse stocked full of necessary medicines.
On Tuesday, South Korea sent more than 110 rescuers, medical personnel, and military personnel to the earthquake-affected region to support search and rescue efforts. Moreover, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pledged $5 million for rapid humanitarian aid. Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President William Lai indicated that they will contribute one month’s salary to disaster relief initiatives. In addition, Taiwan declared its intent to offer 2 million dollars worth of assistance along with two rescue teams from the country that is famously prone to earthquakes.
